Thompson's dark VHS aesthetic throws caution (and magnetic tape) into the wind

Taken from the August issue of Dazed & Confused: “Film is the perfect gateway for me to express myself,” explains London filmmaker and Slade School of Fine Art student Luke Clayton Thompson, whose SS13 project for Lee Roach was an internet hit. His dark VHS aesthetic is simultaneously a throwback to artists like Henry Bond and Susan Mogul and a fast-forward to fashion’s future. But Thompson doesn’t see his films replacing the catwalk. “The live shows are so ritualistic. Sometimes it seems more about the people who go to the shows than the collections themselves.” Between big brand projects, Thompson still finds time to get down, albeit sometimes unintentionally. “After being stranded in north London, I was forced to gatecrash a party on my own and seduce a Swedish girl for a phone charger.”
